Erosion Control

Earthcraft Companies completed an erosion control project for a residential property in Hilliard, Ohio, stabilizing a severely eroded hillside near a fence line where repeated washouts had made it impossible to establish grass.

The Challenge

Water runoff from the top of a hill along the fence line was causing severe erosion, washing out soil and preventing any grass from taking hold. Without vegetation to anchor the soil, each rain event made the problem worse - deepening washouts, stripping topsoil, and leaving the area increasingly unstable. The property needed a solution that would repair the existing damage and create the right conditions for permanent ground cover to establish.

What We Did

Earthcraft hauled in and spread topsoil to fill and grade the washed-out areas, restoring the slope to a stable, workable surface. Once graded, the area was seeded and covered with straw erosion control blankets to protect the seed bed, retain moisture, and prevent any further soil displacement while the grass established. The blankets hold everything in place through rain events, giving the seed the stable environment it needs to take root.

The Result

The eroded areas were repaired, stabilized, and set up for long-term success. With the washouts filled, the slope properly graded, and erosion control blankets in place, grass was able to establish where nothing had been able to grow before. The property now has a stable, vegetated hillside that can withstand normal rainfall without losing ground.
